I periodically search online for a long-lost family member, and have learned to bail out of these "free" offers at the first whiff of exactly these misleading or fraudulent practices. I have built up a search routine which avoids them; I suspect it would be cheaper and easier to hire a genuine private investigator than deal with these unscrupulous blood-suckers.

I can't count the times I've tried them and others, only to be frustrated and disappointed.

I just used your recommended “free” search site.
It is no different than the other sites that have progress screens and ultimately, at the end, requesting financial payment for their site. Maybe you accidentally provided an incorrect link?

EDITOR'S NOTE: FastPeopleSearch does not ask for your email, or offer memberships. You must have clicked a link to a third-party site after getting the FastPeopleSearch results. Be careful to check links with labels such as "Sponsored By InstantCheckMate.com" or "Sponsored By TruthFinder.com"

These works for me & searches are free & unencumbered.

and the possibly related (with add'l info):

As always, consider all results as possibly correct ;-)

Thanks for recommending FastPeopleSearch. I've been using it for at least 10 years... after trying dozens of bogus "Free Search" sites.

I find that your suggestion to use FastPeopleSearch just ends up connecting you to one of the non-free sites.

I'm sure just a typo, but this typo will result in a browser hijacker locking your screen. Ctrl alt delete, task manager, then stop (end) Google to blast it out. the correct address is fastpeoplesearch.com

Similar to downloading a 'free' program only to find later that it is no more than a 30-day trial.

I clicked the blue hyperlink link provided on the sidebar. Pay only not free.

I pretty much gave up on looking beyond a simple Google search. I have NEVER had any useful results over the decades I tried the "free" searches. I just tried fast people search and it seem to be pretty cool, but I didn't go as far as checking the full results because the person I was searching wasn't found (wrong age.) The amount of free info is pretty extensive, age (most times), past addresses and phone numbers. If I was seriously searching for someone I might use fast background check it certainly looks thorough. So I went through the whole process and saw memberships from

FYI a few minutes after I searched a name on Fast People Search and declined membership, I got an email offering 50% off the first month. Excellent del if you have several names to run at once, or even one you really need to know about.

I have been with you 20+ years. Felt safe with your Free search program. How disappointing I end up with Truthfinder
and a pay application. Guess the Tourbus is off the tracks.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Not at all. If you check again, you'll find that basic searches for name, phone or address are free. If you click a subsequent link to a paid site (such as Truthfinder) then you've left FastPeopleSearch.

Only every single time I've ever looked for anyone. Have never paid anyone a dime for that trick, which I find loathsome, state your price up front or I just click you into the internet's dark cold basement.

FastPeopleSearch provided information on the person's name I'd entered. The "Full Background Report" is marked as "(Sponsored)." That link takes you to the Truthfinder site, which is indeed a paid site. If you don't want the pay-for-info site, don't click that link. The information provided was actually more extensive than I'd expected. At the bottom of the page was a list of additional sites, clearly marked like this:
Public Records for [name]
Paid Results Sponsored by [vendor name].com

I'm glad to find this site. Thanks, Bob!

The sad part is that I would be willing to pay a subscription cost if it were reasonable for the few searches that I am ikely to want to pursue, but their monthly costs for those "pay" sites is completely unreasonable and would have to be reduced to a small perentage of what they are to tempt me to subscribe. The other part that is always an issue is that they are not very accurate so you have know quite a lot about your search subject to separate the "wheat from the chaff" so to speak.

I just used FastPeopleSearch and so far, by far, one of the best sites out there with a ton of free information.

this site is also free, BUT has paid links also, it seems to me that the paid links help pay for the free sites upkeep, https://www.truepeoplesearch.com/ both usually have mostly the same info, but not always, this one also has a map of the address, and can click on relatives names and get there info, one has to prove that they are a real person to use it, also I have found that in the past at least, if you contact them, they will reply, both just have a very small crew trying to keep things updated, one thing bugs me on some of the paid sites, you asked to get removed, they do, BUT when I searched for my name, it may say no records found, but the links to other paid sites have my name an info! it seem that they all work together, maybe all owned by the same parent company!

Bob! Thank you for the link to to the Free people Search site! I'm adding it to my set of research tools! Your recommendation means everything for such a site!

This pattern looks very familiar, and dates far enough back in time that I no longer remember when I tried one of these sites,, but early on there were many sites, all using the same "Dark Pattern", although I don't recollect it being called that back then. I gave such a site once, and never gave any such search site another chance ever since, and that's my recommendation to anyone who needs to search for anyone, for any reason!
